Humpback whales in Fiji


Levuka started as its ealry history as a whaling town. Every year during the southern winter Humpback Whales migratate to from Antarctica to locations in the South Pacific. The waters around Ovalau are frequented by by Humpbacks in increasing numbers.
There are yearly surveys conducted from The Whale Conservation Societys, from David Paton from Blue Planet Marine Cetacean Research Institute and other envirnmental organisations, to conduct surveys and collect data on migrating Southern Humpbacks and other whale species.
